Denise Richards Biography

Denise Lee Richards was born on February 17, 1972 in Downers Grove, Illinois. Elder of two daughters born to Irv and Joni Richards. Father Irv Richards used to work for a phone company. When she was a freshman in high school, her parents moved to San Diego, California. While she was still a student, Denise began working as a model also. After graduating from El Camino High in Oceanside, California in 1989, she moved to Los Angeles to focus on her modeling career.
Photographed there and in Tokyo and Paris for magazines and commercials, Richards was a success. Her next home,’ and career was in Los Angeles, where she was cast in television’s Life Goes On, 1989, and also where, the next year, she met Melrose Place’s Patrick Muldoon, with whom she lived for ten years. In June 2002 though, she got engaged to Charlie Sheen.
It was the airing on the popular Seinfeld series that she gained the popularity that landed her in the movies. She spent a lot of time taking acting classes, auditioning and being rejected. She did get some roles though, including Loaded Weapon 1, The campy Tammy And The T-Rex which was followed by her role in the television movie, Fifth Avenue. In 1997, she landed parts in Nowhere and the popular Starship Troopers.
Then in 1997, her big break came in the form of an army of giant squirmy bugs. Paul Verhoven’s Starship Troopers was not the blockbuster that Sony would have hoped for, partially due to bad promotional strategy and a limiting R-rating, but it was still successful in bringing in an audience. Denise Richards appeared as Carmen Ibanez opposite Casper Van Dien and Dina Meyer, as the poster girl-ish starship pilot of the future. Her role, one that could have been a flash in the pan for any other actress, somehow caught the attention of the public and guaranteed that she would stick around.
In 1998, her next project was Wild Things, and featured tantalizing love scenes that included herself, Matt Dillon, and Neve Campbell. In 1999, the actor worked steadily, filming Tail Lights Fade, Drop Dead Gorgeous and the James Bond flick, The World Is Not Enough (she bagged a couple of Razzies – Worst Actress and Worst Couple, the last shared with Pierce Brosnan). She also acted in the movie Good Advice with her now spouse Charlie Sheen.
Though 2001’s horror flop Valentine and the straight-to-video Good Advice did little for her career, Richards saw her star rise further in 2002 with a set of high-profile films that did much to expand her range. In director Malcolm D. Lee’s cheeky Blaxploitation send-up Undercover Brother, Richards was able to give her evil Wild Things persona an even broader, more satirical spin .The romantic comedy The Third Wheel with talented buddies Matt Damon and Ben Affleck came later that year.
She also has guest stared on The Tonight Show. Denise Richards is the beautiful young model turned actress who came from nowhere to center stage overnight. All it took was a movie about giant man-eating bugs! Now she has built a career that will last.
She enjoys kickboxing. And her favorite snacks are Haagen Daz ice cream and Tostitos. Its said that she had a crush on John Travolta growing up. Her parents now own a coffeehouse in San Diego. Denise is left-handed and Was a high school cheerleader. Richards Was ranked 9th of the 100 Sexiest Women by FHM Taiwan, 2001.
